The Business tycoon Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) feels impotent because of the existence of Superheroes is a threat to his ability to profit as a defense contractor in order sell weapons to Boravia and control the U.S. Government and Superman (David Corenswet). Lex Luthor has devised a plan to ruin Supermans reputation and with it superheroes like him.
Using his henchman Lex Luthor creates a distraction by releasing a little monster into the waters near Metropolis causing the monster to grow into a Kaiju that Superman must face to save the city.This distraction allows Lex Luthor the time to find and infiltrate the "Fortress of Solitude" where his henchmen obtain the video message left by Supermans kryptonian parents during the aftermath of the Kaiju battle Superman/Clark Kent/Kal-El learns his origins as the video message obtained by Lex Luthor was descrambled, translated and revealed to both Superman and the rest of the world for the very first time. Supermans imagined image of his origin is shattered as the truth is revealed to the world that he was sent there in the hopes he would take over.
After being confronted by the other members of the Justice League (Green Lantern [Nathan Fillion], Hawkgirl [Isabela Merced],Mr.Terrific [Edi Gathegi]) over the validity and contents of the message Superman questions how Lex Luthor got his hands on the message from Supermans Parents. Returning back to the Fortress of Solitude he is then hit with another revelation Kyrpto is also nowhere to be found. Superman Calls for him to no avail. When he attempts to confront Lex Luthor at his Skyscrapper for kidnapping Supermans dog Lex uses the oppourtunity to portray Superman as an outrageous irrational powerful angry and dangerous threat to himself to convince the world he Superman could be a threat to them too. Refusing to play into Lexs games anymore Superman leaves to speak with Lois Lane for an interview as Superman. After a heated discussion over Supermans role in the world Superman reaches out once more to the Justice League for help to come up with a plan to prove his innocence be who he is and save Kyrpto For the first time superman is left to contend with a world who no longer thinks of him as a hero and is now even afraid of him forced to act in defiance of his kryptonian goals he forges continues to forge a path for himself based on helping others.Meanwhile While trying to Boravia (which some have suggested could be a stand in for Israel or Russia) is attempting an invasion of its poorer neighbor Jarhanpur (Ukraine or Palestine) those around Superman are advising him not to get involved given how the world already sees him as overstepping his role superman offers himself to lex luthor in order to make the people of the world feel safe , Luthor corp has developed an interdimensional prison that even superman does not have the power to escape with no yellow star to aid superman and no despite the advice superman instead of being celebrated Supermans ego is challenged as he is not percieved as the hero he thought himself to be. While he is away Lex Luthor send his goons to locate Supermans "Fortress of Solitude" and kidnap Krypto (Supermans dog).
